Children's Heart Surgery

What is a children's cardiovascular surgeon?

Children’s cardiovascular surgeons are a type of pediatric heart specialist who evaluates and surgically treats conditions that affect a child’s heart. These conditions may be detected before delivery or as the baby grows. Our children’s cardiovascular surgeons use pediatric-specific imaging services and advanced surgical technology to treat heart conditions in babies and children who may need specialized attention.

If advanced care is needed, cardiovascular surgeons work in collaboration with a team of expert subspecialists through UMMC’s Center for Maternal and Fetal Care. This multidisciplinary team works together to care for both the mother and child’s unique needs - all under one roof.
